Our Mission

Mountain bikes are a common thread for building community, and our mission is to help build a stronger community through the lens of the mountain bike by creating a unique event that is built on these main pillars.

  • We have a strong commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity. We celebrate the unique backgrounds and perspectives of all cyclists and work hard to ensure everyone always feels welcomed, respected, supported and valued. What’s more is Durango Derby is working to create access to this awesome event for underprivileged riders. Our goal is to help get more people on bikes.

  • We are committed to promoting advocacy through action. Durango is unique to have over 200+ miles of pristine single track accessible from our front doors, ones we are lucky to be able to showcase to Durango Derby racers. We are working with the City of Durango, BLM, and trail organizations to establish new guidelines for event promoters to ensure the trails are even better than before an event happens for all trail users. Not only will we have our hands in the dirt, working to improve trail conditions before, during, and after our race, we also have a goal to make a donation back to our local trails organization, Durango Trails.

  • In case you can’t already tell, we are stewards of the earth, and we are committed to making our event sustainable. We are reducing environmental impact to a minimum through the use of environmentally friendly products, and and leave no trace ethics for event staff, vendors, participants, and spectators. We hope to inspire other events to promote sustainability through action.

  • As a way of showing our gratitude, we are commited to donating back to community programs and non-profits that help support inclusive youth programs, and of course the trails we all love.

ORGANIZATIONS WE SUPPORT

ORGANIZATIONS WE SUPPORT

The following organizations are all dedicated to improving the cycling community in Durango and surrounding areas. Without these organizations, Durango would simply not be as awesome as it is, so we have made it part of our mission to give back to those who make our world a little better and part of our proceeds are headed right back to these great partners. Check these guys out, and feel free to make an additional contribution to their efforts, it goes a long way.

Back in 1990 when to first UCI MTB World Championships were held up at Purgatory, a group of Durango locals hatched the idea of protecting the existing trail system by the formation of an independent group that interfaced with local land agencies. The group formed a board of directors with two goals: to protect the existing trail networks and build 200 miles of trails by the year 2000. The rest is history. Durango now boasts of over 300 miles of trails directly accessed from town and none of it would be possible without Durango Trails advocating on the city’s behalf for the purchase of open space surrounding Durango with the goal building one of the worlds most extensive trail networks. To learn more and support Durango Trails we encourage riders to check out their website and make a donation.
