About the Format
We are actively working on some changes to the Durango Derby race format for 2026. Stay tuned for more info coming soon!
-
Durango Derby is a one-day event in which riders will race 4 different timed stages along the 50 mile route.
Riders can choose to do the event solo, or as a 2 or 4 person team. See below from more info on racing solo vs. with a team.
-
Durango Derby is a cross-country style stage race where riders will complete four timed stages, all in the same day.
This is not an “enduro” race although the format is similar to enduro racing.
Starting in 2024 we have added the Downcountry Dominator race within the race, see that tab for details.
-
Due to decreasing popularity of two and four person teams we have decided to move to a 100% individual race format. Along with the original 4-stage full Derby, we have now added 3-stage Derby, and 2-stage Derby categories. See below drop downs for more info.
-
Take on the Durango Derby full-course challenge and complete all four timed stages in a single day stage race format with untimed transfers in-between stages. Riders in the full course category will complete Stage 1, Stage 2, Stage 3, and Stage 4, starting and finishing from the Durango Mesa Park.
-
Want to ride or race in the Derby, but not feeling the queen stage on Animas Mountain? The three stage categories will challenge racers to complete three of the four timed stages in a single day stage race format with untimed transfers in-between stages. Riders in the 3-stage category will complete Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 4, starting an finishing from the Durango Mesa Park.
-
Did you ride or race in the team categories in previous versions of the Derby? Our new two stage categories will challenge racers to complete two of the four timed stages in a single day stage race format with untimed transfers in-between stages. Riders in the 2-stage category will complete Stage 1 and Stage 4, starting and finishing from the Durango Mesa Park
-
New for 2024 is the Downcountry Dominator competition.
Within each timed race stage there will also be an unmarked timed downhill segment. So go fast and take chances on the downhills.
Starting in 2025, the top 3 overall (combined time for all 4 Downcountry Dominator segments) from each category will be awarded cash and prizes.
-
Riders will complete each stage in order. Each stage has its own unique start and finish. After every stage finish, riders will make their way to the start of the next stage across town on an untimed, designated transfer route.
The start for Stage 1 will be a mass start in waves based on their respective categories.
Subsuquent stages can be started whenever the rider is ready and will be run as individual time-trials.
-
Riders will be required to follow designated transfer routes through town to get to the start of each stage.
These transfers are untimed, meaning they do not effect your overall solo or team race time. Of course, rules of the road apply.
